Prevention Better Than a Cure

We are keen to promote excellent standards of oral hygiene as this is the key to maintaining good oral health. Integral to this is our team of hygienists who provide education and advice on the care of teeth and gums.

If necessary at your examination your dentist will carry out a simple scale to remove any tartar

build up and stains. However, your dentist may recommend you to visit one of our hygienists for

further cleaning after assessing the health of your gums.

Gingivitis

Gingivitis or ‘Gum Disease’ is a condition in which your gums become red, inflamed and swollen, often causing your gums 74 bacteria, which causes gum irritation if not cleaned.

When plaque is not removed it becomes calcified and hardens to form tartar. Tartar cannot be removed by brushing and flossing alone; it requires removal by a dentist or hygienist, a procedure known as scaling.

Treatment

Gingivitis can be treated with a good oral hygiene routine and a visit to the hygienist will help

you to achieve this.

Periodontitis

If gingivitis is not treated it may progress to a condition called periodontitis. This is when the infection spreads to the underlying tissue and bone. It can cause your teeth to become loose and eventually fall out.
