Implants
Implants are becoming an ever increasingly popular way to fill
gaps caused by missing teeth.
Whatever the reason for losing teeth, whether it be due to gum
disease, decay or trauma, dental implants provide a long term
aesthetic and functional solution.

What is an implant?
An implant is a small titanium rod that is placed into the jawbone to act as a natural
root. Once the implant becomes integrated with the bone a permanent crown is
specially made to fit so that it looks like a natural tooth.
What to expect
First your dentist will assess your suitability for an implant by checking the health of
your teeth and gums. X-rays will be taken and in some cases a CT scan in order to
assess the quality of bone and the position of anatomical structures.
The placing of the implant is a surgical procedure carried out under local anaesthetic.
The titanium implant is tightly fitted into the socket, a small hole produced in the
jaw bone and the gum is stitched back over the implant.
The implant is then left to heal and integrate into the bone. This can take between
3 and 6 months.
Once bone growth around the implant is sufficient impressions are taken to make a
permanent Crown, and is fitted two weeks later.
Advantages
There are many advantages to implants over traditional methods such as bridges
and dentures.
