X-Rays
Cranleigh Dental Centre is equipped with the latest technology in digital x-rays requiring just a fraction of the radiation of traditional film x-rays. Our x-rays can be viewed instantly on the computer screen so we are able to explain your diagnosis and show you any problems
immediately.
Why take x-rays?
X-rays help us to see what is happening within the tooth and at the roots. They enable us to diagnose any tooth decay, infection around the roots and bone loss. Recognising and treating dental problems at an early stage can often prevent more extensive and costly treatment.
What about radiation?
The amount of radiation received by dental x-rays is extremely low, and we are exposed to more
radiation through natural sources such as minerals in soil, however we will only take x-ray if necessary. Despite this low exposure to radiation we prefer to avoid taking x-rays during pregnancy as an added precaution.
Small X-rays
A ‘bitewing’ x-ray shows the biting surfaces of the upper and lower teeth so that your dentist can detect cavities between the teeth.
A ‘periapical’ x-ray is used to show the whole of the tooth and the root.
Full Head X-rays
Full head or ‘panoramic’ x-rays allow an overall view of your oral health showing all the teeth and jaw.
These x-rays are useful in monitoring the development of wisdom teeth, health of the jaw bones and
joints and evidence of cysts or cancer.
